The assistant sidebar lets Claude or Codex edit the current drop directly, using your own API key.

Connect a provider

• Open the assistant sidebar and choose Claude or Codex.
• Select Connect and paste an API key from Anthropic (console.anthropic.com) or OpenAI (platform.openai.com).
• Describe a change and press Enter. Shift+Enter adds a new line.

Models

Claude requests use Claude Opus 5.5. Codex requests use GPT-5.3-Codex through the OpenAI Responses API. Usage is billed to the account that owns the key.

How edits work

The assistant receives the HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JavaScript mode, and HTTP headers, then returns complete new contents for only the files it changes. The server validates the result with the same rules as manual edits and applies it to the live document, so every collaborator sees it immediately. Edits made while the assistant works are kept. There is no approval step: select See changes on any reply to review a line diff, and publish or restore versions as usual.

Your key

Keys are stored only in local storage in your browser. Each request sends the key to the HTMLDrop backend, which forwards it to the provider and never stores or logs it. Disconnect removes the key from the browser. Anyone with access to your browser profile can read local storage, so use a key you can revoke.

Other assistants

Use the copy button in the composer to copy the prompt and project for any assistant, and the plus button to paste a JSON reply back. Assistants that support MCP can also edit drops through the MCP server.
